This update -- SMC Firmware Updater 1.7 -- is showing up in software update for me and I have a MacBookPro8,3 (17-inch, Late 2011). I wonder what gives?

All is fine here. Just ran the firmware on my early 2011 15" MPB. After installation the computer restarted, the fans worked for about 30 seconds at full speed, then a second restart, and thats it.

It might be helpful to word the description as something like "For SOME mid-2010 and early-2011 MacBook Pros." I know I should have read the fine print more carefully, but I have an early-2011 MacBook Pro, and I was initially baffled why I couldn't find the update. (It doesn't apply to 13-inch models.)

My MBP 9,1 (mid-2012) isn't affected, i.e., SU says there are no updates.
